REPORT: Hurst hopeful of striker signing before the weekend; Blackpool keen on Hammill

Iron manager Paul Hurst has revealed he is hopeful of securing the signature of a striker before Saturday’s game against Crawley Town.

United are severely lacking in the striking department, with only Lee Novak and Kyle Wootton fit ahead of the weekend. John McAtee, although described as a striker, is preferred as an attacking midfielder by Hurst.

Kevin van Veen will be missing for three-to-four weeks with a swelling to the knee, whilst Wootton will miss the Derby cup game on Tuesday after suffering a concussion – but should be fine for Saturday.

The news of an incoming striker will be music to every Scunthorpe fans’ ears, and comes via our friends at BBC Humberside.

There are no names mentioned yet, but as soon as one is rumoured in the press, we will bring you an update.

Meanwhile, Any Old Iron understands Blackpool are keen on Adam Hammill before the transfer deadline. The winger was dropped to the bench for the loss at Cheltenham, bewildering the Iron faithful – but Scunthorpe Live confirmed after the game that United players were being targeted by League One clubs, and the 31-year-old is one of those in question.
