The site was started on the 16th of September 2011 by two Scunthorpe United supporting fanatics that travelled the country watching ‘The Iron’.
Rather than vent our various frustrations to each other on the bus home after a hefty loss, we decided to start noting down our thoughts – and so brought forth the birth of ‘Any Old Iron’.
Sadly, one of the originals had to take a step back from producing articles for the site due to his busy lifestyle, and I have taken the production of the articles forward for the past few years.
The site is lucky to have occasional blog posts from Iron fans Ryan Middleton and Harry Parker, who both attend pretty much every match.
We are always looking for more followers of the club to contribute to the site, so please get in touch via out ‘Contact us’ page if you are interested.
Believe it or not, starting this website helped me make the decision to go to University to study Sports Journalism – I have plenty to be grateful for, as after all, the site was originally started as a place to moan after a loss.
Now, to me, it is much, much more.
