Despite the rather horrifying display on Saturday afternoon, it was at least slightly refreshing to wake up to news on Sunday morning that Junior Brown had returned to the iron as a free agent.
Not only does he bring some badly needed experience into the defence, but also some attacking threat going forward too.
Myself and many other Scunthorpe fans have questioned and criticised the questionable transfer activity within the club over the last couple of years and rightly so, but this signing is smart and badly needed. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
The only slight worry is his fitness levels, and how long it will actually take to get him up to match fitness, but once we do that, we all know we have a good player on our hands.
Although I was relatively impressed with O’Malleys performances earlier in the season, his inexperience was clear to see at times, and the less said about Hippolyte, the better.
A left back was always needed in reality. Particularly when you bear in mind the congested fixture list between now and the end of the season, caused by the pandemic.
Although this is a good signing, it is still only the start. More experience is still badly needed to help the club climb out of the current slump we find ourselves in.
A midfield general and a right back that isn’t always in the first aid room at the very least. Fingers crossed that the penny has finally dropped at the club and a couple more signings in the same bracket as Junior can be completed in the very near future.
