Following on from the news of Mark Howard’s departure on Tuesday, Kevin van Veen, Abo Eisa, Jacob Bedeau and Jem Karacan have been unveiled as the next to exit.
The news of Kev leaving will be a hard pill for the Iron faithful to swallow, with the Dutchman becoming a cult hero in his time at the club.
But it will be even harder to take, with Scunthorpe Live journalist Charlie Wilson revealing that Kev had pleaded to remain at the SVS.
Although last season was KVV’s worst yet at the club, it was largely due to injury. He leaves as one of the most exciting and naturally gifted footballers I’ve seen at Scunthorpe in my lifetime.
I’m more heartbroken than when he left to join Northampton.
In less surprising news, Eisa and Bedeau both leave having come across as troublemakers in the latter stages of the season.
Despite not shedding too many tears at Abo and Bedeau leaving, not securing Karacan’s signature for a further 12 months seems incredibly foolish.
Peter Swann and Swann Jr have their work cut out, because that’s a good chunk of the decent players gone out of the ‘worst SUFC squad of all time’.
