Mark Howard announces his exit from Scunthorpe via social media

Iron goalkeeper Mark Howard has revealed he will be leaving the club at the end of his current contract, after just 7 months at the SVS.

The shotstopper was signed on October 22, and played a big part in shoring up an extremely leaky Scunthorpe defence.

All things considered, the 34-year-old’s record of 10 clean sheets in 35 appearances wasn’t bad going at all, when you look at the shambolic end to the season – an end he missed large parts of through injury.

In the Instagram post, Howard said: “Another season completed. Been a strange and challenging season.

“I want to thank the @sufcofficial and its staff. So pleased to have played a part in keeping the club in the league after signing late.

“Would have been a lot better to play in front of the fans but we will see what the future holds.”

Personally, I wouldn’t have been against offering Howard another year, but one thing is for sure, a new goalkeeper NEEDS to join the club this summer to battle for the number one spot with Rory Watson and Tom Collins.

All the best, Mark, and thanks for the efforts.
