OPINION: ‘The return of KVV and Fela will help us turn this around’

Along with the Iron’s 2-1 defeat at home to Mansfield on Tuesday night, they also managed to break an unwanted club record of eight successive defeats in the process.

Just about every statistic about the start we have made to the campaign is bleak, with only four goals and four points from the opening eight games of the league campaign and out of every cup competition.

I do however think there is slight cause for optimism IF we get back to absolute basics and find some much needed consistency within the squad. Nothing more than that is acceptable at the moment.

Although we have been hit harder than most by injuries, suspensions and the dreaded Covid, there does appear to be a small ray of light at the end of the tunnel.

With players returning from isolation periods, the likes of KVV and Fela returning from long spells on the sidelines with injury and a more favourable looking run of fixtures to come, I fully believe the Iron are capable of turning things around.

The latest odds found at the likes of www.androidbettingappguide.co.uk still see many bookies writing us off, and see us as relegation certainties.

But, it would be harsh to judge Cox based on the first batch of fixtures due to the reasons already stated, but now is the time for him to really find his strongest starting 11 and move forward.

Although many have been enforced, there have been far too many changes to team selections and formations so far this term, and that has to change now moving forward.

Historically, no Scunny side has ever been particularly successful with anything other than the basic 4-4-2 formation. The time for wing backs and diamond formations have got to be over.

A midfield general is so badly needed in the middle of the park, but aside from that, if we can manage to get the more experienced and talented heads settled in and playing regular football, we have enough to get out of the rut we find ourselves in at present.

With 38 games and 114 points still up for grabs, I for one will be delighted if we end up anywhere above the dreaded dotted line come the end of the season.
