Scunthorpe announce Barnsley striker Miller; Perch red card appeal unsuccessful

Scunthorpe have announced the signing of young striker George Miller on a season-long loan from Championship side Barnsley.

The 21-year-old spent the 2018/19 season on loan with fellow relegated League One side, Bradford City, before he made a summer move to the Tykes from Middlesbrough for an undisclosed fee.

Miller has a wealth of experience in the football league for his age, having scored 18 goals in 43 starts.

In other news, Iron manager Paul Hurst has revealed that the club were unsuccessful in their appeal to overturn a three-match ban imposed on James Perch for his straight red on Tuesday.

Talking to the club’s iFollow account, Hurst said:

“We have just found out that the appeal has been unsuccessful, so he now serves a three-game ban.

“So that’s a great start to the season for Perchy.

“It doesn’t help us at all, but I stand by our decision to appeal, and it certainly hasn’t been deemed a frivolous appeal.

“The danger is you slow these things down and you get certain images and stills, and these things can look bad.

“It seems that has been the case, although we haven’t got the exact reasons for it.”
