Five defeats on the spin, and the joint-worst record for goals conceded so far this season has seen Scunthorpe slip perilously close to a relegation scrap.
For the first time in a long time, however, the Iron have found themselves on a terrible run, but most are refraining from blaming the manager.
Stuart McCall has yet to have a full transfer window to bring in his own players, and it has been clear for all to see that he is sick of the players at his disposal.
A poor summer saw most of the Iron’s main players through the exit door, with rushed replacements not up to scratch in most areas. Ryan Colclough the most notable exception.
In particular, United have the joint-worst defence in England’s top four league’s – but that seems like it will be the first port of call when January comes.
“There are a lot of areas where we have got to show a lot more,” McCall told BBC Radio Humberside.
“There will be a rebuild in January with new faces coming in and we will have different types of characters.”
A rebuild is certainly needed, and once McCall can get some of his own faces in, he will undoubtedly drag us away from the League One relegation zone.
