Scunthorpe United and Jordan Clarke have been dealt the cruelest of blows heading into tonight’s play off semi final second leg with Rotherham United.
It was revealed the defender has suffered a recurrence of the hamstring injury which kept him out for the majority of the season.
The news comes from BBC Humberside journalist Mike White, who had picked up a whisper of the bad news, and also read between the lines following an Instagram story post from Clarke himself.
My understanding of this is Jordan Clarke has suffered a recurrence of his hamstring problem so is out of tonight’s game & most likely any potential Wembley final. Huge blow for Scunthorpe United & the player. #sufc #uti pic.twitter.com/FgkrW0mno6— Mike White (@mikewhitesport) May 16, 2018

Picked up a whisper last night that something might have happened but couldn’t stand it up. Club would no doubt have wanted it all kept under wraps until 6.45 but maybe hadn’t banked on the player himself alluding to it. Not hard to read between the lines. Real shame for all. https://t.co/idYrGPg4EB— Mike White (@mikewhitesport) May 16, 2018
Marnick Vermijl is the obvious replacement, and although was a bit rusty against Bradford, has shown before during the loan spell that he is more than capable of filling Clarke’s boots when needed.
Not the news we wanted, especially with Matt Gilks’ injury, but we are Scunthorpe United – we pick ourselves up and dust ourselves down.
Up the Iron.
