Alexander hopes Saturday’s goal will ‘kickstart the rest of KVV’s career’ with Scunthorpe

Iron manager Graham Alexander is hopeful that Saturday’s goal against MK Dons can give Kevin van Veen the boost he needs to start a goal scoring run.

The goal was van Veen’s second in three games, as the Dutchman showed some glimmer of the form he found himself at the start of the 2016/17 season.

Alexander is hopeful that the forward can make the most of the opportunity he is likely to get over the Christmas period, and believes a good few weeks could re-start his career in England.

“Kev is a fantastic lad but he needs to grasp the nettle himself for what is needed for English football and to play week in, week out,” Alexander told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

“We have spoken in the past about Hakeeb and filling in the gaps in between all the brilliant stuff he does on the ball.

“We saw Hakeeb do that on Saturday when he played in central midfield and it was a fantastic performance.

“That is what Kev has to do. He has to fill in the gaps so in between his brilliant flashes of play he is still contributing to the team.

“Hopefully Saturday is the kickstart in the rest of his career with us.” he concluded.
