| Boyce will switch to claret and blue in January |
Andrew Boyce is to become a Scunthorpe player in the near future. This morning it was announced by various media outlets that the Iron had triggered a release clause in the central defenders contract, and that he was expected to be officially an Iron player on January 1st. Hurrah!
We had in fact tried to take the player on loan until he officially joins, but it seems Lincoln rejected that approach outright.
I can understand why they would have wanted to hold onto one of their star men for a little longer, but they could have saved themselves some cash on his wages from now until January, and tried out the pairing of some of their other centre backs to ensure they don’t miss Boyce too much once he does leave.
Imps manager Gary Simpson said “I wasn’t aware of the release clause in his contract but they have activated the fee so at the end of the day we are powerless to stop it.”

It's more down to lack of numbers at CB because it'd leave us short with little time to explore other options and get someone else in permanently/on loan.

Yes, decent centre half; commanding in air, quick, not afraid to put his body on the line.
Attacks the ball well when in opponents box, scoring centre half.
Can still improve without doubt.
Luton Town wanted him in the Summer.

Yep, Lincoln fan!
Quite a contrast to last season.
Last season he was quite vunerable, indecisive, was paired with another young lad (who's still with us at RB), and was just 'ok'. Had an awful couple of months over Xmas where he was costing us the odd goal or putting us in serious trouble. We tended to play 4-4-2 where he was quite exposed because we didn't have anyone 'holding' and it was easy for people to run at him and get past him.
This season, we've played 4-2-3-1, so two holding players. He's rarely exposed in that formation so teams either go wide and get crosses in or go more direct. Given that he's 6'4″ or whatever, that's bread and butter for him so in that respect, our formation suits him down to the ground. So, in my opinion anyway, it's more that we've played to his strengths rather than him coming on leaps and bounds. No doubt he's improved, just not as much as people think he has on the face of it. He's also got an experienced head next to him, which he's said himself helps him a lot. Feels he plays his best football with one next to him.
People weren't *that* bothered in the summer when there was talk of him leaving. He draggged his heels a bit more than he should have done given that he wasn't overly good.
Personally, I don't think there was any doubt he'd end up in the FL in the next year or two. I feel that he should have seen out this season here, got another 50+ games of first team, settled football under his belt and then moved on.
