Ohhhh Chris Iwelumo!

Chris Iwelumo: Scored the winner for Scunthorpe

So last Friday saw the Iron claim their second victory of the season away at Southend United and their first since the opening fixture at Glanford Park against Mansfield. It was also the first away scalp of the campaign and the impressive victory leaves us sitting in 11th place, 3 points outside the play-offs.

After throwing the lead away so many times this season already we finally learnt our lesson and held out for the final 30 of the match to see 3 vital points head back to North Lincolnshire.
The goalscorer was big Chris Iwelumo who capitalised on Shrimpers Defender Ben Coker’s shocking clearance, heading in from close range.
I have to compliment Lawsy’s substitutions this week as they were what was needed to see the result out. In some of our previous outings I believe poor subs led to the dropping of points, none more so than the match at AFC Wimbledon. But as the Iron learnt their lesson and held onto their lead, Laws seemed to have learnt his and made some positive substitutions.

So on to this weekends fixture where we face Plymouth Argyle at Glanford Park. The Pilgrims may travel short of confidence after a resounding 3-0 loss at home to Morecambe last weekend. The Iron will hopefully capitalise on their defensive frailties and secure a second home victory of the season. Despite the single victory at Glanford Park we are unbeaten there this season. Hopefully we can use this positively and take another vital 3 points this weekend.

Up the Iron!
