Collins is nearing a return |
While there might be a number of fans out there who have given up on or even forgotten about Michael Collins, I am delighted to hear that the midfielder is expecting a full return to training next week.
He might not have made too much of an impression since joining from Huddersfield in 2010, but his return to fitness will give the midfield that extra quality and energy while the added competition for places will hopefully improve the performance of the team as a whole.
When Nigel Adkins signed Collins, 26, two years ago, I read a Huddersfield football blog that was gutted to see Collins leave the Galpharm and so I had very high hopes that he could help keep us in the Championship at the time. Unfortunately, he never seemed to get the run of games that he deserved since Adkins’ departure and of course he has been out of action for over a year with an Achilles and tendinopathy injury, playing his last game in the win over Hartlepool United on August 30 last year, in the Johnstone Paint Trophy.
It has been a frustrating time for the Halifax born Midfielder who’s return to fitness has been put back a number of times over the last 13 months as specialists struggled to diagnose his injury. Fortunately for Collins and Scunthorpe though, he now looks to be within a week away of training which should mean that we could see him back in action in a months time.
He had an operation in May and worked hard throughout the summer to aid his rehabilitation and has been working with the youth team this week. We can only presume that he has been working with the youth team initially as to not put him in a fast paced more physical first team session, but Collins himself has told Knill that he has had no reaction and is ready for first team training next week.
It is difficult to get a feel for what a player is like off the field, but I heard from a number of sources and from a good online football magazinethat Collins is as very focused and professional off the field while being down to earth at the same time. I think that his return to the squad will be huge boost and I only hope that he gets the time and opportunity to show what he can do.
