O’Connor to depart Iron?

With the picture reminding us all of fonder times – it will be of a shock to Iron fans to hear that Michael O’Connor may yet be exiting Glanford Park right at the end of the transfer window.

The Northern Irish playmaker, who has occasionally been a comparatively brighter spark in our sadly dismal season is being heavily linked with a move up to the green side of Edinburgh.

Having been a Celtic fan all his life – a move to relative SPL heavyweights Hibernian, (also known as Celtic-lite), is likely to be an extremely attractive option for the former Crewe midfielder.

The Scottish side, managed by Pat Fenlon are believed to have already made a bid for Micky – but it’s unclear as to whether or not this yet meets our valuation for Michael.

Now being in the bottom 4 – and the unthinkable, (back-to-back relegations), now a very distinct possibility: selling the playmaker for nothing other than a very decent price: is likely to be an extremely unpopular decision all round Scunthorpe United.

With just a couple of days left of the January Transfer Window, it’s thought that the publicity of Hibernian’s interest in O’Connor may be the trigger for lots of other sides’, but whether that still involves Michael, (who is of course out of contract in the Summer), leaving North Lincolnshire will have to be remain to be seen.

Let’s just hope that whatever happens in the very crucial next few days – that it’s enough to secure the Iron survival.
