Iron pay off Nelson

Scunthorpe United have finally announced the inevitable and confirmed that they, and Michael Nelson have reached a financial agreement resulting in the termination of his contract.

With Nelson on the very verge of joining Kilmarnock – this is expected to be a cut-price deal of some form, and after Michael & his agent will have attempted to create the best all round situation for them. Frankly, can you blame them?

The 31 year old had 18 months left on his contract, which now terminated at a cost to the Iron, (but with Nelson set to join Killie: it’s essentially a bonus), and puts pay to a frustrating time with the Iron.

Despite initial optimism during both Ian Baraclough’s, and Alan Knill’s respective reigns, (Christ – he’s been club captain under both), it has become apparent that following his fall-out with Knilly: that his days in North Lincolnshire have been sadly numbered.

And after Michael’s 36 appearances for the Claret & Blue Army in all competitions – today was the day that he’s finally said goodbye to the Iron for good: and will be tommorow undergoing a medical with the SPL side.

It’s hoped that the club will have at least one centre-half addition lined up soon: with Nelson’s departure leaving Scunny with only 2 centre-halves. And one of them is barely bloody fit!

We at this blog in particular, and no doubt speaking for a huge sway of Iron fans: when we thank him for his fine service, and wish him the very best in the future and everything he does.

Here’s to Michael Nelson!
