After his simply excellent performance at Hartlepool – the Iron’s versatile frontman and winger Garry Thompson has been rewarded with a place in the NPower League One team of the week.
With Thommo having been absolutely excellent throughout the entire game at Victoria Park, it was a pleasure and just reward to see him cap off the performance with a typically stunning individual goal from the ex-Morecambe lad.
Running close to 50 yard with the ball – beating 3, and then holding off another 2 – defenders: before flicking the ball over the helpless Scott Flinders and in to the net. Perfection.
Thus: it’s a pleasure to see him justly rewarded with the accolade after the performance, and bagging the Iron’s killer 2nd goal during our win away to Hartlepool on Monday night.
Especially considering that this way Scunny’s first win at all in 2 and a half months – and our first win away from home in over 3 months. Indeed, it’s still only Scunthorpe’s 2nd win away from home this season!
The Kendal born attacker thus becomes only the Iron’s 4th player to have featured in the side throughout the entire season.
He now joins Andy Wright, Michael O’Connor and Bobby Grant on the list of Scunthorpe United players to have featured in the NPower League One Team of the Week.
Chosen by their mysterious panel of experts – lets hope that in the very near future, they’ll have many reasons to pick winning Scunny players for the Team of the Week. And time after time after time of course!
Yet more important than all of that of course: is just finding win after win after win.
And preferably starting, and thus making it 2 on the bounce – in the Iron’s away trip to John Ward’s Essex-based Colchester United on January 14th.
Up the Iron!
