For the first time since before the start of the season – it is going to be a quiet footballing weekend for Scunthorpe United fans.
For there will be no Iron games for the entire weekend sadly: following our knockout of the FA Cup by AFC Wimbledon.
A week and a half ago now, the Dons’ replay away win over the Iron means that Scunny’s next game will not be until next Saturday when we clash with Greg Abbott’s Carlisle United.
The Cumbrians will travel down to Glanford Park on Saturday December 10th for the League One clash: with the Iron absolutely desperate for the points to climb up the table after our very barren run of late.
But following the significantly improved performance away at Martin Allen’s high-flying Notts County on Saturday: fans of Iron can no doubt retain hope that we can kick on.
And the 2 week break ought to be the perfect chance to do so, as the lads recuperate and the likes of Jimmy Ryan and Damien Mozika come back from their respective injuries. It’s just a shame to see that Oliver Norwood will be banned for 3 consecutive league matches following his red card against Notts County at the weekend.
With the Football League’s fixture-list automatically ensuring that there is a free weekend for League One where the FA Cup 2nd Round occurs, with the Iron’s passage through blocked by the Dons: it’ll be a quiet week for us all sadly.
There might be a suspsiciously large number of Scunthorpe fans offering to take their other halves shopping we imagine!
For with the Football League expecting the vast majority of League One sides to make it to the 2nd Round, there’s no point of finding themselves in the position afterwards of having to re-arrange a load of their fixtures.
And despite reputed efforts of the club trying, they’ve sadly / thankfully, (pick your option!), been unable to re-arrange a league game, (especially a Tuesday night one), to fill the vacuum of the empty weekend.
So essentially – enjoy your free time, and let’s make sure we’re all ready to rock and roll against Carlisle on the 10th.
That goes for fans and players alike. Up the Iron!
